Shehaqua Lighting and Whiteboards
This article describes the lighting and whiteboard setup for the various lecture halls at Camp Shehaqua.
Contents
Rec Hall
The Rec Hall is the largest hall with the most complex setup.
The whiteboard goes against the wall opposite the porch, covering the windows to the left of the back door. The whiteboard is centered between two rafters. This whiteboard is stage center.
On the two rafters to either side of the whiteboard, there is a halogen light. These halogen lights provide the main lighting for the stage. The lights are in the center of the rafter and are tied to the rafters with rope.
There are also two clamp lights to provide extra light. These can either be on the same rafters as the halogen lights or they can be one rafter further from the whiteboard. There are screws in the rafters for attaching the clamp lights.
Ensure that electrical cords go over the rafters to reduce the risk of a light falling down in the middle of a crowd.
Unit 1 Lodge
Unit 1 lodge takes time to set up because there is no electricity in the building.
The whiteboard goes in the middle of the long wall opposite the small porch.
One of the long gray extension cords is not quite enough to reach from the women's bathroom to the Unit 1 lodge, so an additional long extension cord is used. A power strip is put in to conveniently turn off the lights.
A string of lights with yellow cages is hung on the rafters to provide lighting to the participants. If available, a clamp light should be put on the rafter pointing at the whiteboard.
There are no benches in the lodge. Usually, 4 to 6 benches (depending on the group size) are brought from the Rec Hall at the beginning of the program and are returned at the end.
Staff 1
The whiteboard used in Staff 1 usually has some kind of reinforcement because there is not enough wall to hang a full size whiteboard. The whiteboard goes above the fireplace or, if it is a small whiteboard, propped on a table in front of the fireplace. A clamp light is placed on a rafter pointing at the whiteboard. Three benches come from the Rec hall at the beginning of the program and are returned at the end.
Nature Lodge
The whiteboard is placed on the table on the small wall opposite the small room. The whiteboard is screwed into the wall. One or two clamp lights are on the rafters pointing at the whiteboard. Three to 4 benches are brought from the Dining Hall at the beginning of the program and are returned at the end.
